May 1st
though October 31st brings about the annual call of nature for sea turtles
to lay their eggs on our shore. It would be greatly appreciated if you
would either turn down or turn off your spot lights on the beach side
during this time. The brightness of the lights deters the sea turtles from
coming ashore and laying their eggs. When the baby turtles hatch, the
lights also draw the hatchlings onto the beach rather than in the water
where they must go to survive. The eggs take approximately 53-63 days to
hatch depending on the temperature of the sand or coquina. Please advice
people to read the yellow signs that are posted warning them not to
disturb or molest the turtle nests.
