"Tiffany the Raccoon"

Tiffany after surgery on her arm.

This story is from volunteer Karen Inman.

One afternoon in June, 2004, I received a call about a raccoon stuck in a dumpster and was unable to get out. The lady said it had been there for a few days. So my husband, Randy and I loaded up our gear and headed for the location. When we got there we could see that she had a soda can stuck on her arm. After we got her loaded in a carrier, we headed back to the facility to remove the can from her arm. It was obvious that the can had been stuck on her arm for sometime, and that the can had done a lot of damage to her arm.

Tiffany had to have surgery to repair the damage to her arm, Dr .Owens of Moultrie Animal Hospital, was able to repair the arm and pull the skin
together with stitches. Tiffany is seen here sedated, just before her surgery to repair her arm.

As the weeks went by, Tiffany began healing quite well. She spends her
time in an outdoor exercise cage now, until her release date, which is set
for this fall.

See graphic pictures of Tiffany's arm injury.
