Their fawn friend Willow is in the back.

Dr. Tate is sedating the mother deer with lidocaine
preparing her for a cesarean.

Deer's eyes are covered to reduce her stress level.
Lora Smith assists Dr. Tate.

Dr. Tate has opened the deer's abdomen.

In this photo you can see the deer's uterus.

Removing first baby by cesarean.

First fawn born is Pinky.
You can see his head in Lora's hands. The rear legs have not been born yet.

His rear legs have just been born.

Karen has Tag and Lora has Pinky stimulating and drying them off.

In other words he was not breathing.

Karen trying to get Pinky up and breathing. Tag is doing well.

Karen still working on Pinky.

Lora helping Tag to stand.

Karen concentrating on Pinky. He is still in trouble.

Karen is trying to open Pinky's airway.

Still working on opening Pinky's airway.

Karen gave Pinky a shot of epinephrine as instructed by Dr. Tate.
Pinky was then given some oxygen.

Lora, Tag, Karen and Pinky all doing GREAT!

We are breathing a sigh of relief and wiping a tear.

Now we are trying to give the babies colostrum.
Randy is watching in awe.

Tag goes first.

Tag is suckling colostrum.

Pinky is next.

Pinky is suckling colostrum.
Randy is still watching in awe and comforting mom.

Randy is fully aware that mom is not going to make it and that
this is the first and last time she will be with her babies.

Mom had a severely broken back and was
euthanized shortly after this photo was taken.
