"Robert Lucas (Luke) Bobcat"

This story is from Karen Inman.

My Surrogate Mom (Karen) and I wanted to share my story with you.

I, Robert Lucas (Luke) Bobcat, at an early age of 3 weeks old, misplaced my mother. I crawled around in a field for a day or so, but I never found mom. I was cold and hungry, I also became very careless, and a human snuck up behind me and snatched me up. Even though I was only 3 weeks old, I still, snarled, hissed and struggled. I even tried to bite the hand that held me, but to no avail. The human took me inside and wrapped me in a real soft warm baby blanket. Fortunately for me, the human had done this before and had all the necessary equipment to take care of me. My surrogate mommy immediately realized I wasn’t weaned yet and that I would be a handful to bottle feed.

In no time my surrogate mommy filled a pet nurser with formula, held me firmly, and stuck the nipple in my mouth and gently squeezed until a bit of milk got on my tongue and I swallowed. At first, I thought it was the most terrible stuff in the world and I did put up a fight! but it did not take long and I got used to it. “I was really hungry!” and it wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be. “Don’t tell mom though.”

After she fed me, she made sure that I went potty. “My mother used to do that after I ate.”

To be truthful, I wasn’t sure life was worth living without my mother. But my surrogate mom knew how I felt and wrapped me in a baby blanket and put me against her own body so I’d feel her warmth and heart beating.

Here I am, 9 months old and my mom said that I have done very well, because once again I really don’t like humans.

I heard through the grapevine that I would be released in the next few weeks. My surrogate mom said that I was ready to go and meet what ever the world had to offer me; you know somehow I understand what she meant.

Even though I don’t show it now, she has taken good care of me. I will leave her with only one statement: “Mom I Love You"
